30 years ago (1979), I started my own home-based business with a list of contacts and a TYPEWRITER. Times were tough back then similar to what they are today, but I never watched the news, so I didn’t even know. I just went ahead and did it long before home-based business was even a popular idea.
If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, then I encourage you to become a self-employed business owner. You will never be happier than you are when you run your own show!
To help you get going, here is a checklist of what seems to me to be important for new entrepreneurs to have as skill sets. It is not meant to be daunting, but to help you decide what skills you already have, and what skills you will want to strengthen. Do not be discouraged in any way if you don’t currently have all these skills.
You’ll notice you are asked to choose yes or no, and there is a space for you to put in a priority numeral that will show you what skills you wish to strengthen and in what order, beginning with 1. You will order your priorities AFTER you respond to all the questions.
Have fun, and do recognize this inventory is by no means definitive. You may have strong skill sets that aren’t listed here. Feel fee to add them in at the end of each section where it says “OTHER”!
